Role Details


Job Title: Data Cabling Engineer

Department/Location: Wi Fi Support & Services

Responsible to: Site Manager

Hours of work: 40 hours Monday to Friday (on-call as part of a rota)

Salary: £20-24k subject to experience + on-call allowance

Company vehicle, mobile phone, laptop and tooling all provided

Company fuel card and expense card provided, including meals and accommodation when working away


Main Purpose: Copper and fibre data cabling installation with termination, maintenance and repair.  This is a field-based role which will require travel in and out of area. Overnight stay required when out of area.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety Policy
  • Installation of data networks utilising both copper and fibre technologies in accordance with current standards and tested for successful installation
  • Diagnosis and repairs of copper and fibre faults
  • Installation of cable management and all associated infrastructure ie comms cabinet, PDU and shelving
  • Complete predictive and onsite surveys using Ekahau Site Survey
  • Design, specify and cost cabling and fibre requirements
  • Support the wider teams with WiFi maintenance and installation


Key Competence Requirements

  • Ability to terminate copper and splice fibre data cabling for both single and multimode fibre
  • IT Competent being able to operate a laptop with the Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to operate small hand tools, including drill / driver
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.  A great team worker with ability to work alone


Experience and/or Qualifications



  • Driving Licence (ideally with no endorsements and minimum 1 years’ experience)
  • Demonstrable experience of delivery of data cabling services for both copper and fibre
  • Internal and external cable pulling
  • Experience of working in a field-based capacity
  • Being able to work at heights



  • City & Guilds in a Data Cabling discipline
  • IPAF trained and / or certified
  • Valid CSCS card
  • Experience of installing and maintaining WiFi networks (not including design and configuration)
  • Working outdoors with direct bury and / or ducted cabling solutions
  • Exposure to trenching and ground works
  • Experience of Ekahau
