Role Details

Department/Location: IT Support & Services based in Gosforth

Responsible to: Service Delivery Manager

Hours of work: 40 hours (flexible/remote working)

Salary: £42,000 to £47,000 per annum


Main Purpose:

The MS SQL DBA is responsible for supporting the operational requirements of the business with Database administration of its MS SQL estate. The role will be required to administer, support, performance manage and maintain peak operational performance of all the MS SQL servers that reside within the business.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining operational databases – Microsoft SQL Server 2008 to 2017
  • Implementing strategies for high availability and disaster recovery
  • Managing SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission critical production systems
  • Configuring and maintaining database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security
  • Ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectation
  • Analysing, solving, correcting issues in real-time, providing end-to-end problem resolution
  • Refining and automating regular processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Assisting developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement
  • Sharing domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members
  • Any such duties that may be required.

Experience and/or Qualifications


  • Experienced in Database Administration with Microsoft SQL Server (including server maintenance, upgrades, backups, replication)
  • Experienced in Customer Service


  • MS SQL Server Certification
  • ITIL Framework
  • Experience in helpdesk environment
